Machete Kills

ACTION; 1hr 41min

STARRING: Danny Trejo, Amber Heard, Sofia Vergara, Michelle Rodriguez, Mel Gibson, Charlie Sheen

Killer couple: Trejo and Rodriguez

Machete Cortez (Trejo), the monosyllabic killer hombre with the Brillo-pad face and the very beeeg knife, has been sent to Mexico by an up-against-it US President Rathcock (Sheen) to dispose of a missile-hoarding maniac (Demián Bichir). Any movie that casts Mr Sheen as president of anywhere is A-OK in my book, and with Robert Rodriguez in the cinematographer, producer, story inspirer and director’s hot seat, there are plenty more fruit loops where he came from.

Meet weapons dealer and “Merchant of Death” Luther Voz (Gibson), Heard and Rodriguez as hot operators that nobody should cross, Vergara as a murdering madam and Walt Goggins, Cuba Gooding Jr, Lady Gaga and Antonio Banderas in the ultimate role-share as, collectively, the Chameleon. All that along with more shoot-outs and blow-ups than any sane person could rightly count. Not that sanity is the order of any grindhouse day and why the hell should it be? Anyone who had the guilty pleasure of Rodriguez and Trejo in 2010’s Machete will be hanging out for heads to roll.
