The three amigos: from left, Bolt, Mittens and Rhino

It’s The Truman Show on paws. Regular dog Bolt (voiced by Travolta) believes that the TV studio set on which he lives is the real world and that perky actress Penny (Cyrus) is in constant danger from the diabolical Dr Calico (McDowell). He also believes — since his self-titled show is all he has known from puppyhood — that he’s a genetically modified superdog. So when Bolt flees the coop, it’s a whole new beginning.

With feline minx Mittens (Essman) and obese hamster Rhino (Walton, an OTT giggle), the hoodwinked woofer makes his erratic way from New York City, where he has unwittingly ended up, back to Hollywood, where Penny — who does care! — is fretting. In the process, with Mittens at the helm, he evolves from pampered TV-star lunkhead to dog next door. Either way, Bolt is a honey. But we all know that cats rule every roost, and this one is no exception. Too smart by half with a soft spot that she is determined to hide, snarky little Mittens slinks off with the quick and witty show.
