Yogi Bear

COMEDY; 1hr 24min

STARRING: Tom Cavanagh, Anna Faris; voices by Dan Aykroyd, Justin Timberlake

Bear necessity: Yogi

Yogi must indeedy be smarter than the average bear: the cartoon veteran (fruitily voiced here by Aykroyd) has been around since 1958, had his own TV show and starred in a movie musical. Plus he hasn’t aged a day or lost his taste for a Jellystone Park pic-a-nic, much to the frustration of long-suffering Ranger Smith (a bland Tom Cavanagh).

But with Jellystone threatened with imminent closure, pic-a-nicking is the least of Mr Ranger Sir’s worries. Can he save the park from loggers while romancing a nature-loving documentary maker (Anna Faris) ? Are computer-animated Yogi and his button-cute buddy Boo-Boo (Mr Versatility Timberlake, last seen onscreen in The Social Network ) an all-round adorable double act? The ankle biters in the Sydney premiere audience certainly seemed to think so. The bears’ antics are as basic as A-B-C but they had the tots in the palms of their paws.
