Father goose: from left, Po and Mr Ping
Beware the wrath of a grudge-holding peacock! It’s not every day you’ll strike a sentence like that. Then again, it’s not every day that a tubby goofball panda (voiced by Black as Po) is adopted by a goose (Hong as Mr Ping) and grows up to become a kung-fu warrior, either.
Life is sweet for perpetually ravenous Po, hanging with the Furious Five (Jolie all but purrs as slinky-voiced Tigress) and relishing his kick-ass rep. But into every life a little rain must indeed fall: power-mad peacock Lord Shen (Oldman) has come up with a cannon that could spell the end of kung-fu, and won’t do much for China into the bargain. Clearly, he must be stopped and in that wildly erratic process, Po will also learn who he truly is.
Deep & Meaningful? Not entirely. The DreamWorks animation elves see to it that Panda 2 is action overload all the way. But beneath the whamming, bamming and one-liners, there lies a moral compass and the steady beat of a squishy old furball heart. Boom-boom…
