Slug me! Mub and M.K.

Survival is a micro-sized, woodsy war zone in director Chris Wedge’s peachy lark. Celestially cool forest queen Tara (voiced by Knowles) is about to choose an heir in the form of a magical flower pod that will keep the forest safe from the blight-spreading Boggans and their dastardly leader, Mandrake (Christoph Waltz). Even though Tara is closely guarded by doting Leafman Ronin (Farrell) and his hummingbird-riding troops, everything falls drastically apart.

The buggy ones have always been practically invisible to blundering humans, until cynical teen M.K. — Mary Katherine (Seyfried) — miraculously finds herself among their downsized number as the temporary keeper of Tara’s precious, royally enhancing pod and the new best gal in the making of Leafman rebel Nod (Hutcherson).

It’s not world-rocking by any means, but the animation gods dine out on all creatures small and smaller, bumbling slug and snail included (Aziz Ansari and Chris O’Dowd). Epic is a minutely detailed, pastel trip and an eye-opener for M.K., who has never saved an entire forest before, especially when shrunk to springy insect size.
